Lasque Construction Limited commenced business in 1983 as the South and East Auckland franchise holder for Signature Homes. At that time, the Signature Homes brand and business was owned and operated by Fletcher Challenge, and built exclusively utilising its own solid-timber building system.

From 1983 until 1990, Lasque developed into Signature's leading franchise builder nationally, constructing in excess of 50 homes a year from Manurewa through to Howick/Whitford.

At the invitation of the then sole shareholder Keith Day, Gavin Hunt joined Lasque at the beginning of 1990 as General Manager and 50% shareholder, and at the same time, Lasque acquired the franchise for the entire Auckland metropolitan area, taking over Fletcher's wholly-owned building division in West Auckland, and commencing a new franchise on the North Shore.
